OUR SERVICES

KNOW YOUR BODY BEST OFFERS A RANGE OF MASSAGE THERAPIES.  WE TAILOR EACH TREATMENT TO BEST MEET YOUR NEEDS.
Using Swedish massage as a base, we may incorporate other techniques such as sports massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy or myofascial work.  You and your therapist will decide what combination of techniques is best for you.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Blissfully relaxing and therapeutic, this is the most common type of Western style massage.   Oil or lotion is applied to the body with firm, soothing pressure. Long, gliding strokes and muscle kneading are employed to increase circulation, release tight muscles, relieve pain and banish stress.  May be combined with other techniques as needed.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

This style of massage uses firm, direct pressure, friction and stretching to release adhesions in the connective tissue and the deeper muscle layers.  Deep tissue massage is effective at treating sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries, chronic tension, headache, decreased flexibility/range of motion and postural imbalances.

May be combined with Swedish massage.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Often used in conjunction with Deep Tissue Massage, this treatment assesses and releases restrictions in the fascia.
Fascia is the dense and very strong connective tissue that surrounds and supports every structure in the body.  In its healthy state, fascia is soft and pliable, able to move and stretch.  Physical trauma, scarring or inflammation can cause the fascia to become tight and restricted, causing pain and limited range of movement.

As Myofascial release can be a somewhat uncomfortable treatment, only a few parts of the body are addressed per treatment.

PRENATAL MASSAGE

A beneficial treatment for the mother to be.  Soothing Swedish massage relieves muscle pain and reduces swelling of the hands, feet and ankles.  Can help relieve calf cramps, low back pain and heartburn.  Certain techniques and areas of the body are avoided to ensure the safety of the mother and child. Pillows and padding are used to comfortably and safely position the client.

HOT STONE MASSAGE

Smooth, heated basalt stones are used to massage sore muscles and melt away stress and tension.  If deeper work is required, our heated trigger point stones will loosen stubborn tight spots.  Deeply relaxing and detoxifying.
available from Bev , Holly or Kim

THERMAL PALM MASSAGE

A very relaxing and soothing massage.  Soft, heated sacs that mould to the contours of the body are used to deliver deep, penetrative heat to the joints and muscles.  Especially effective when used during a deep tissue treatment.  A softer alternative to hot stone massage.
available from Esperanza

THAI YOGA MASSAGE

Also known as "Passive Yoga", this comprehensive, full body treatment is performed on a mat on the floor.  The client is dressed in comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement.  The practitioner guides the recipient through a series of yoga postures while palming and thumbing alone the body's energy lines and pressure points.  Relieves muscle tension, improves circulation, increases flexibility and balances the body energetically.

Based on the needs of the client, therapists may incorporate specialized massage techniques into the treatment, such as:

SPORTS MASSAGE

This is essentially a more vigorous form of Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, but with an emphasis on the needs of the athlete.  Regular massage reduces trigger points and adhesions in the soft tissue, preventing injury and enhancing peak neuromuscular functioning.
Pre-event massage stimulates circulation, calms nervous tension and warms up the tissues for optimal performance while reducing the chance of injury.  Post-event massage assists recovery from hard training and competition.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

A trigger point is a hyper-irritable, tender spot located in a tight band of muscle fiber.  It is so named because it "triggers" a painful response, affecting not only the muscle where it is located, but also causing "referred pain" to other areas.  The most common example occurs when a trigger point in the neck or shoulder refers pain upwards, causing a headache.
Trigger points are deactivated by applying deep, static pressure and repetitive stroking along the muscle fiber, followed by stretching and heat.
Longstanding trigger points may require more than one session to treat.
Trigger point therapy can be somewhat uncomfortable, therefore it is incorporated as one small part of a more relaxing massage.

CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY

This gentle and non-invasive technique is used to assess and treat restrictions of cerebrospinal fluid flow.  The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is produced by the brain and circulates within the head and up and down the spine.  The pumping of this fluid creates a rhythm, or pulse, that causes a gentle, continuous movement of the bones of our bodies.  Because all the nerves in our bodies originate along this path from the brain down the spinal cord,  any impedance in the flow of CSF  can be felt as pain anywhere in the body.  Restrictions are caused by trauma, such as whiplash or a fall.
The therapist is trained to detect such restrictions and to perform techniques that will free up the flow, restoring balance to the body and relieving pain.
available from Kim

TMJ MASSAGE

Specific techniques to relieve discomfort associated with TemporalMandibular Joint disorders,  or jaw pain.  Gentle massage techniques to the anterior neck, jaw and temples can relieve jaw pain caused by teeth grinding and clenching.  Using gloves, the therapist will also perform intra-oral massage, to release trigger points and adhesions in the jaw muscles.

BREAST MASSAGE

Breast massage is very effective at promoting lymphatic drainage, reducing pre-menstral tenderness and swelling and softening post-surgery scar tissue.  Gentle massage techniques and discreet draping ensure the comfort of the client.

STOMACH MASSAGE

Abdominal massage is very effective at allieviating the symptoms of IBS and constipation.  Specific work along the border of the diaphragm promotes easier breathing.

AROMATHERAPY

We offer a variety of natural, essential oils that can be incorporated into the massage treatment at no extra cost.  Scent free massage is also available.
